Data Base Connection, Inc. (DBC) created GSA Advantage for the General Services Administration (GSA). Knowing DBC’s knowledge with applications, Web development, and client/server design, GSA asked DBC to deploy this highly successful e-commerce commercial offering. DBC developers are skilled with delivering complete applications with enterprise authentication, SSL certification, e-commerce financial, and Commercial Electronic Data Interchange (C/EDI).

Today GSA Advantage has grown in popularity and usage among the private sector. There is nothing else quite like it in the federal government. GSA now sells the concept to other government agencies, such as the United States Air Force (USAF) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The U.S. Marine Corps and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have also started virtual stores.

In the 2008 fiscal year, improvements to the system led to $558 million in sales volume, a twenty-four percent increase from the previous fiscal year. The improvements allow state and local government personnel order disaster recovery products. There are more products and user-friendly services than ever before.
